Syfy Orders Pilots for ‘The Machine’, ‘Haunted’ & ‘Happy!’
Latest news could mean that the Syfy is going to some major creative revamp, they have ordered pilots for artificial intelligence drama The Machine, based on the 2013 cult hit film; supernatural horror-drama Haunted; and Happy! based on Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel.
The Machine is a 2013 movie that follows the story of a brilliant computer programmer who is desperate to save his terminally ill daughter and creates the first-ever piece of self-aware artificial intelligence. Of course, things go horribly wrong when the government hijacks the AI originally designed to help injured soldiers and uses it to create the ultimate cyborg killing machine. The film’s writer, Caradog James will pen the script, while John Giwa-Amu (The Silent Storm) will produce the upcoming series for Syfy.
The Haunted is a supernatural horror-drama that comes from James Frey and follows the lifes of four siblings who reunite after their parents' deaths. As they try to overcome their fractured personal relationships they find that they also must face the literal ghosts from their past in order to survive. Noga Landau (Syfy's The Magicians) penned the pilot and will co-exec produce.
Happy is based on Morrison (Batman, The Invisibles) and Brian Taylor's (Crank) graphic novel of the same name. The show will follow Nick Sax — an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hitman — who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue-winged horse.
All three series will join a Syfy pilot slate that also includes previously ordered Superman prequel Krypton from David S. Goyer.
